Claims Manager Oil/Gas/Refinery (with legal background)

The Claims Manager will manage the full lifecycle of contractual claims across major projects and operational activities for a large, multinational company in the energy/industrial sector. This includes identifying, evaluating, documenting, negotiating, and resolving claims arising from contracts with suppliers, contractors, and service providers. The role requires strong legal expertise, excellent knowledge of contract law, and the ability to work cross-functionally to safeguard the organization’s financial and legal interests.
Mandatory relevant past experience in the Oil&Gas field.

Key Responsibilities –
Identify and assess potential and actual contractual claims across ongoing projects.

Conduct legal and contractual analysis to determine entitlement, liability, and financial exposure.

Manage the complete claims lifecycle: intake, evaluation, strategy, negotiation, and closure.

Prepare legally sound notices, responses, and position statements aligned with contract requirements.

Review contract terms (including FIDIC/EPC) to support claim interpretation and risk assessment.

Lead negotiations with contractors and suppliers to achieve timely and favorable claim outcomes.

Advise internal teams on contractual rights, obligations, and risk mitigation strategies.

Support project and procurement teams during contract execution to prevent claim escalation.

Collect and validate technical, commercial, and schedule data to build claim arguments.

Maintain accurate documentation and evidence supporting claim positions and decisions.

Prepare regular status updates, dashboards, and reports for senior stakeholders.

Collaborate with legal, finance, procurement, and project management teams as a central claim contact.

Support dispute resolution processes (mediation, adjudication, arbitration) when necessary.

Contribute to contract drafting and review to strengthen claims and change management clauses.

Promote best practices and deliver training on claims prevention and contract compliance.
