The U.S. Mission in Bucharest is hiring a Travel Assistant for our General Services Office.

Experience:
  • FOR FULL PERFORMANCE GRADE FSN-7: Three years of previous work experience in travel and tourism industry, at least one of which should be in fare calculation, ticketing.
  • FOR TRAINEE GRADE FSN-6: Two years of previous work experience in travel and tourism industry, at least one of which should be in fare calculation, ticketing.
  • Completion of high school is required.
  • Good working knowledge of English and Fluent Romanian required.
  • Specialized knowledge of the travel industry. Must be familiar with visa requirements for international travel. Word processing required, with high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with host country officials, U.S. Citizen personnel, VIP visitors, and travel industry contacts.
  • Strong organizational skills required, and the ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a high degree of focus on detail. Ability to organize and manage travel program efficiently and effectively under time constraints. Proficiency operating word processing equipment and other relevant software as well as Internet tools. Ability to learn new applications and programs. Ability to perform basic math computations. Strong writing and oral communicaitons skills with attention to detail. Experience handling multiple, competing priorities and making sound decisions in a fast-paced envrionment.
  • A substantial degree of persistence is needed for effectiveness. Negotiating skills are required when dealing hotels, airlines, and other service providers/vendors.

Job overview:
  • Under the technical supervision of the Supervisory General Services Officer (SGSO) acts as the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) to the Travel Management Center (TMC) Contract.
  • Provides information to and technical advice to TMC contractors.
  • Handles domestic travel arrangements for Embassy staff and official visitors.
