The school nurse is a registered professional nurse certified to work in a school setting who strengthens and facilitates the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children. The major focus of school nursing services is the prevention of illness and disability, and the early detection and management of health problems. The school nurse is uniquely qualified in preventive health, health assessment, and referral procedures.
The school nurse must display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and other agencies associated with the school. They must also protect the confidentiality of records and information obtained during professional duties, always exercising appropriate discretion in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
The role supports all 3 sections of the school (Early Learning Center, Elementary and Secondary Schools) and the nurse is assigned to alternatively work in one of the two medical offices established in the campus.

A school nurse:
- Assist with the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of the school health services program;
- Collaborate with the consulting doctor regarding current medical developments and procedures that may affect the health and well-being of students and staff; ensure that remedial actions are taken in due course, and follow-ups are handled with priority;
- Provide first aid support to adults and children, including the use of the AED when necessary;
- Provide care to students and staff who need emergency care due to injury or who are present with an acute illness;
- Assist other examinations and screenings to ensure that the learning potential of each student is not diminished by a remediable physical disability;
- Informs the Supervisor about any emergencies and completely follows the school protocols for such situations and circumstances;
- Immediately notify the appropriate personnel of any evidence or suspicion of substance abuse, child abuse or neglect, serious medical conditions, potential suicide, or individuals who appear to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids;
- Follows established protocols to make sure that the school community is protected from the spread of communicable disease or other health or cleanliness detriments;
- Follow exactly the Medical Office set protocols and communication guidelines;
- Obtain parental consent for administration of OTC medication to students, by calling the parent (verbal consent);
- Inform the parent when a child is not well enough to remain at school and needs to be picked up;
- Provide case management by communicating with the family through telephone calls, or written correspondence;
- Assist with physical examinations when conducted in the school;
- Perform required antigen tests on adults and children, adhering strictly to prior parental consent requirements for minors;
- Ensure that the Medical Office has the necessary supplies and equipment;
- Maintains proper hygiene in the Medical Office throughout the day, including disinfecting examination beds, countertops, and other surfaces as needed;
- Check at the end of the day all the medical devices are present, accounted for, and in good working order;
- Conduct monthly audits of medical supply expiration dates and prepare corresponding inventory reports;
- Follow established procedures for sanitation and hygiene in the handling of body fluids;
- Follow approved procedures for the safe and proper disposal of medical waste
- Nurse Practitioner degree from a recognized institution;
- Current nursing license to practice in Romania;
- Proficiency in spoken and written English, using professional grammar and vocabulary.
- Minimum of 3 years of successful healthcare experience;
- Demonstrated knowledge of child growth and development, school wellness, community health, and social service resources;
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships across students, parents, school staff, and external health agencies;
- High personal integrity, strong moral character, enthusiasm, and proactive initiative.
The Employee’s Performance Evaluation will be conducted annually by the above Supervisor.
