School Counsellor

Avenor College is seeking a School Counsellor to join our school on the next steps into the future, from August 2024.
Engagement in counseling and other related activities with students, parents and teachers provides rich opportunities for personal development.
Students need guidance on their way to becoming an adult, they face many challenges and they are deeply involved in exploring and expressing their emotional and spiritual selves, while learning their own strengths, weaknesses, hopes, and fears.
The self- knowledge that develops through their school years is a key foundation for their future.
Personal development processes also enable students to develop understanding of others through involvement in different projects, different non-formal activities, and through working cooperatively and creatively in designing their lives.

We would welcome applicants who will fulfill the following professional characteristics:
- Psychology major registered at COPSI (autonom – psihologie educationala/consiliere scolara si vocationala);
- At least 2 years of experience as a school counsellor;
- Fluent in English both written and spoken;
- Solid knowledge of developmental psychology;
- Experience in managing crisis situations;
- Proactive attitude, assertive communication skills, tolerance to stressful situations, commitment to projects and deadlines;
- Working experience in a school and a master's degree in Educational Psychology can constitute advantages;
- High levels of organisational ability;
- Communication skills – to liaise with colleagues, parents and to engage children;
- A confident and competent user of ICT.

Job description:
- Planning and teaching personal development activities for children with ages between 14 to 18 years old;
- Assisting children in managing behaviours and social interactions;
- Planning and holding parenting workshops for the parents/teachers/students;
- Offering learning support for children with special educational needs;
- Establishing and maintaining a relationship of support with the children and their families;
- Motivating and encouraging children in pursuing their interests, building a healthy self-image and increasing their self-esteem;
- Writing PSED and PSHE assessments at the end of each term;
- Substituting teachers in teaching activities upon request;
- Holding PSHE-related extra-curricular activities
