On behalf of our client, a prominent global technology and engineering group specialized in innovative mobility and industrial systems, we are looking for an experienced SAP BASIS Consultant to join their international IT division. You will play a hands-on role in maintaining and evolving the SAP landscape, working with a small, globally distributed team and collaborating with SAP functional, development, infrastructure and business stakeholders.

The Role

This is a technical individual-contributor position for an experienced SAP BASIS professional who can take ownership of administration, maintenance and troubleshooting across SAP systems. The team works across the platform stack—from operating systems and databases to the SAP application layer—so practical problem-solving, independence and clear communication are important.

What You’ll Do

• Administer, monitor and maintain SAP systems across application, database and operating-system layers.

• Troubleshoot and resolve SAP BASIS incidents, including L2/L3 issues, and investigate root causes.

• Perform SAP installations, upgrades, kernel updates, patching, system copies, client administration and system refreshes.

• Support SAP NetWeaver and SAP HANA environments, including performance tuning and database-related administration.

• Maintain and troubleshoot SAP interfaces and connectivity, including RFCs, certificates, SSO and related configurations.

• Support SAP platform components and services such as ECC, Fiori, Solution Manager, GRC and other connected systems.

• Contribute to migrations, integrations, platform improvements and the organisation’s planned transition towards SAP S/4HANA.

• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational tasks and improve support processes.

• Work with global SAP colleagues, infrastructure and network teams, developers, functional teams, vendors and business users.

• Contribute to SAP security activities and platform maintenance, including relevant security tooling and remediation work.

Technology Environment

• SAP: SAP ECC, SAP NetWeaver, SAP HANA; related components include Fiori, Solution Manager, GRC, HR, SSO and BTP.

• Databases: SAP HANA, MaxDB and Sybase ASE; experience with other enterprise databases is also relevant.

• Operating systems: Enterprise Linux—primarily Red Hat Linux—and Windows Server.

• Infrastructure: Predominantly Azure IaaS, alongside some on-premises infrastructure.

• Automation: Shell scripting, Python, Ansible or similar tools; AI-assisted automation is of interest.

What We’re Looking For

• Around 6 years of hands-on SAP BASIS experience, ideally in production environments.

• Strong SAP BASIS administration experience with SAP ECC and SAP HANA.

• Experience independently troubleshooting and resolving L2/L3 SAP BASIS incidents.

• Practical operating-system administration experience, particularly with Linux; Red Hat Linux is especially relevant.

• Experience with SAP system maintenance activities such as upgrades, kernel updates, patching, system copies or refreshes.

• Ability to work autonomously, prioritise issues and take ownership through to resolution.

• Good communication and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate across a global team.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Shell, Python, Ansible or other scripting and automation tools.

• Exposure to AI-assisted scripting, log analysis, troubleshooting or operational automation.

• Experience with SAP S/4HANA conversions, migrations or upgrade projects.

• Exposure to SAP security tooling such as Onapsis, as well as SSO, certificates and platform hardening.

• Experience in a manufacturing or automotive environment.

Working with the Team

You will join a lean, globally distributed SAP team and work closely with colleagues in different locations and time zones. The role requires a proactive, systematic approach and the confidence to investigate issues independently while involving the right stakeholders when needed.

Occasional planned maintenance may take place outside standard working hours, including Sunday morning maintenance windows. These activities are occasional rather than part of the regular daily schedule.
