Purpose of the Role
The Learning Support Specialist supports secondary students (KS 3-5) who have learning difficulties, neurodevelopmental profiles, or other barriers to learning. The LS specialist designs and implements evidence-based interventions, coordinates assessment documentation for exam access arrangements, and works closely with subject teachers and the school counsellor to ensure all students can access the curriculum and reach their potential.
Education and Experience

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education / Psychopedagogy / Educational Sciences with a specialization in Special Education or equivalent;
- (Optional) Master’s degree in related fields (Educational Psychology, Early Intervention)
- (Optional): Completion of the Psycho - Pedagogical training module
- Registration with the Romanian College of Psychologists (CPR) – Educational Psychology or Psychopedagogy specialisation
- Minimum 2 years' experience working with school-age children or adolescents in an educational or clinical setting.
- Experience writing and implementing individual support or intervention plans.
- Familiarity with IB and/or Cambridge IGCSE programmes is desirable.
- Professional working proficiency in English (all programme documentation is in English).
- Strong understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) legislation and educational frameworks in Romania and the United Kingdom, including assessment procedures, accommodation requirements, and inclusive education practices.
- Strong written communication; able to produce clear psychoeducational reports for both school use and external submission.
- Organised and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple student cases simultaneously.
- Warm and student-centred approach; able to build trust with adolescents and their families.
- Collaborative team player; comfortable working alongside teachers, coordinators, and the school counsellor.
- Committed to inclusive education, professional ethics, and ongoing CPD.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Screen students for learning difficulties and liaise with families and external specialists as needed.
- Design and implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) tailored to the demands of IGCSE and DP programmes.
- Deliver targeted individual and small-group interventions addressing literacy, writing organisation, study skills, and executive function.
- Prepare psychoeducational reports and supporting documentation for exam access arrangements; collaborate with the IB and Examinations Coordinators for submission.
- Advise subject teachers on differentiation strategies and inclusive classroom practice across IB and Cambridge programmes.
- Collaborate with parents, other teachers, psychologists for interdisciplinary interventions.
- Maintain confidential, up-to-date student records and support documentation in line with GDPR and Romanian data protection legislation.
- Uphold safeguarding and child-protection policies at all times.
