We are recruiting a Java Backend Developer for a local software development company with experience in building web and cloud applications, system integrations, APIs, and business process digitalization solutions.

This is a full-time, 100% remote position.

You will contribute to the development and maintenance of the backend services supporting a public sector digitalization platform.

The role involves working with complex, hierarchical document models, full-text search and indexing, document workflow automation, and REST API development using Java, Spring Boot, and modern development tools, including AI-powered solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain microservices and REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot;
• Implement business logic and storage components for hierarchical document structures, metadata, and digitized records;
• Integrate and optimize full-text search and indexing mechanisms;
• Write unit and integration tests;
• Follow established coding standards and maintain clean, reliable, and maintainable code;
• Design relational database schemas and write and optimize SQL queries;
• Ensure data integrity and consistency;
• Participate in sprint planning, technical discussions, and code review sessions;
• Use AI tools responsibly for boilerplate code generation, test writing, and refactoring, while critically reviewing and validating the generated output.

Requirements:

• At least 2 years of hands-on backend development experience with Java 8 or a later version;
• Solid practical experience with Spring Boot and the broader Spring ecosystem;
• Experience developing, maintaining, and integrating REST APIs;
• Good knowledge of relational databases, SQL, schema design, and query optimization;
• Experience with complex or hierarchical data structures, structured document processing, or document management concepts;
• Good understanding of full-text search and indexing principles;
• Experience with at least one of the following technologies: Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr, Lucene, or similar database search mechanisms;
• Experience with Git, including branches, pull requests, and code reviews;
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins;
• Practical experience using Docker for local development environments and containerized builds;
• Regular use of AI development tools such as Cursor, JetBrains AI Assistant, ChatGPT, or Claude;
• Ability to critically assess and validate AI-generated output;
• Advanced written and spoken English.
