- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field; or 1-3 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty as an equivalent.
- Basic experience in software development, configuration, integrations, or automation with proficiency in one or more coding or scripting languages such as Java, SQL, Python, JavaScript, or similar.
- AI Skills & Tooling (Required): Practical exposure to AI technologies in a professional or hands-on context, including LLM-powered applications, AI coding assistants (e.g. Codex, Claude Code, Windsurf, Cursor, etc.), AI-based search and knowledge tools (e.g. Glean), prompt/context engineering fundamentals, and the ability to evaluate, configure, and integrate AI-powered SaaS solutions with guidance. Awareness of responsible AI use, data privacy, and governance frameworks is essential.
- At least 2 years of engineering or application engineering experience, including 1+ years of managing, configuring, integrating, or supporting SaaS applications used for productivity and collaboration such as Google Workspace, Slack, Glean, Blink, JIRA, Confluence, or similar applications.
- Business Applications Acumen: Growing understanding of Business Applications and the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions within the context of a large-scale organization such as Booking.com.
- Problem-Solving & Communication: A proactive, results-driven, and analytical mindset with strong verbal and written communication skills, operating primarily within team scope with guidance on more complex scenarios.
- Experience with APIs, integrations, identity and access management concepts, automation platforms, Mulesoft, GitLab, or AWS is a plus.

The purpose of this role is to evaluate, configure, deploy, monitor, and maintain enterprise applications and SaaS technologies that deliver reliable corporate solutions for Booking.com employees. The Enterprise Application Engineer I supports small to medium product implementations, enhancements, integrations, and operational improvements within the team's scope. They work with guidance from more senior engineers on complex tasks, follow defined engineering and production best practices, and help keep productivity and collaboration platforms stable, secure, and well maintained. This role also supports the responsible adoption of AI-enabled SaaS capabilities and automation opportunities that improve day-to-day work
This role provides a hybrid way of working with an onsite presence of 2 days/week.
Key Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Business Consultancy: Support the team in understanding business challenges and translating requirements into well-scoped technical configurations, enhancements, and integrations for enterprise SaaS applications. Use AI tools responsibly to simplify workflows, automate defined tasks, and support data-informed decisions with guidance.
- Stakeholder Management, Collaboration, Communication: Engage effectively with team members, product managers, peer groups, and relevant stakeholders for the function. Communicate clearly, provide regular progress updates, ask relevant follow-up questions, and adapt technical depth to the audience.
- Analysis, Innovation, Problem-Solving: Examine information to identify issues and develop practical solutions using logical and analytical thinking. Follow established best practices, know when to ask for help, and identify AI and automation opportunities that can reduce manual effort or improve team efficiency.
- Coaching, Knowledge Sharing & Mentoring: Share learnings, documentation, runbooks, and work approaches with colleagues. Contribute to onboarding and knowledge sharing within the team while building awareness of mentoring and coaching practices.
- Systems Design: Contribute to evaluating architecture options by considering cost, business requirements, technology requirements, and emerging AI-native or AI-enabled SaaS capabilities. Help describe system implications and support solution designs that meet current requirements and can adapt to future enhancements, with awareness of Engineering for Failure, Scaling Applications, Data Storage and Caching, System Documentation, Non-Functional Requirements, and Security and Compliance Standards.
- Technical Incident Management: Support the triage, prioritization, troubleshooting, monitoring, and resolution of production issues while mitigating customer impact within SLA. Contribute to incident communication, log analysis, postmortem processes, root cause analysis, and incident response practices with guidance from more experienced engineers.
- Automation and toil reduction: Help reduce repetitive operational work by contributing scripts, configuration improvements, SaaS workflow automation, and small software features that improve availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency. Build awareness of scalability, CI/CD, cloud technologies, domain-specific languages, and DevOps/Site Reliability Engineering practices.
- Production systems best practices: Secure production systems by following company policies, standards, and industry security best practices. Help ensure compliance (SOx, PCI, PII, GDPR), reduce single points of failure by documenting system architecture and runbooks, and build awareness of configuration management, data retention strategies, backup/restore procedures, and system security.
