Engineering Degree - graduated;

Job goal

Oversees the maintenance of rolling mill plant, high voltage equipment, substations, various electrical controls, instrumentation, programmable logic controllers, process control computers and other electrical/electronic equipment. Serves as a primary contact for plant electrical, instrument and process control systems equipment repairs. Plans and allocates resources to align with plant operational, maintenance, financial, and strategic objectives. Directs and supervises the work of related maintenance employees. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.

Key Responsibilities

Manages personnel to achieve rolling mill plant related maintenance goals. Ensures effective health, safety, environmental and preventive maintenance programs are in place to achieve plant and organizational goals and compliance with all related requirements. Oversees plant electrical and instrumentation maintenance. Develops and manages related budget and expenditures. Consults with the Industrial Manager to establish preventive maintenance procedures and schedules.

Promotes and drives the maintenance program using asset management techniques. Schedules, assigns, and supervises in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment, including switch-gear, controllers, and electrical motors; oversees the troubleshooting and repairs of electrical and electronic circuits and equipment to 10 kV; supervises the installation of conduit, wiring, relays, control and timing devices and metering equipment.

Provides leadership and coaching for setting and achieving plant electrical and instrumentation expectations and team and individual goals that are aligned with the plant and business strategy. Trains maintenance personnel as to methods and procedures, standards of performance, and other factors affecting work.

Evaluates personnel performance. Identifies and ensures appropriate and timely training and development.

Develops and implements process improvement projects. Brainstorms for ideas that can solve problems, improve efficiency, reduce cost, and improve safety. Manages continuous change and adapts business processes as necessary.

Reviews, evaluates, and analyzes trends in data to make project and process decisions that satisfy operational, maintenance, safety, and engineering guidelines.

Plans, schedules, and monitors the work of staff engaged in the plant’s maintenance and repair activities; prioritizes and distributes assignments; prepares daily work schedules; monitors productivity, efficiency and quality of work; provides standard maintenance procedures for operating and maintenance staff.

Coordinates electrical maintenance and repair work with plant operations. Inspects plant electrical equipment at regular intervals to determine necessary repairs. Reviews operating reports and inspection records to identify faulty electrical equipment. Recommends methods for improving plant equipment efficiency and performance, design and installation.

Assists with the development of specifications for electrical equipment purchases. Provides input on design of new electrical equipment. Initiates requisitions for supplies, parts and materials. Communicates with various vendors, Operations and Engineering personnel regarding equipment specifications and purchases.

Monitors contracted upgrades, construction, and electrical maintenance operation. Develops and prepares project status and performance reports. Prepares reports, forms, correspondence and related documentation regarding assigned operations; ensures that all required forms and reports are properly completed and filed in a timely manner.

Maintains records of electrical maintenance, repair and inspection activities. Plans the electrical maintenance program activities including preparing job plan specifications and cost estimates for electrical systems. Plans layout and design of new electrical and instrumentation systems; modifies existing electrical, instrumentation and process control systems.

Orders and maintains inventory of electrical and electronic parts, materials and equipment. Initiates requisitions for supplies, parts and materials and services. Communicates with various vendors, operations and engineering personnel regarding equipment specifications and purchases.

Participates in the development and implementation of the annual budget for equipment expenditures and contract services. Monitors the budget expenses throughout the year and provides recommendations to Assistant Superintendent.

Plays an active role in team meetings regarding design changes, inspections and progress of projects. Communicates regularly with maintenance technicians and other District employees to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.

Ensures proper usage of emergency response plans and actively participates in crisis management response drills.

Performs skilled maintenance work in emergency situations.

Keeps informed of new technology, trends, and techniques in the maintenance industries.

Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
