Chief Accountant

KreativeHR is coordinating the recruitment process for a Chief Accountant on behalf of a business partner—an international fashion and lifestyle group representing leading global brands.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on accounting professional to take ownership of accounting, tax compliance and statutory reporting for the Group’s Romanian entities.

This is an individual contributor role, offering direct collaboration with the Managing Director and Group CFO. You will work closely with retail, e-commerce and logistics teams, as well as external auditors, payroll providers, banks and tax advisors.

Your responsibilities

Accounting and statutory reporting

• Manage monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes in accordance with Romanian Accounting Standards.

• Prepare statutory financial statements and other mandatory financial reports.

• Ensure accurate general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accruals and provisions.

• Oversee inventory accounting across stores and warehouses, including stock valuation, landed costs, stock counts and inventory provisions.

• Manage fixed assets, store investments and accounting for lease agreements, deposits and bank guarantees.

Tax compliance and digital reporting

• Ensure accurate and timely tax calculations, returns and statutory filings.

• Manage compliance with ANAF’s digital reporting systems, including SPV, RO e-Factura, SAF-T, RO e-TVA and RO e-Transport, where applicable.

• Coordinate intercompany accounting and transfer pricing documentation.

• Act as the main contact for tax authorities, statutory auditors and external tax advisors.

• Monitor legislative changes and advise management on their financial and operational impact.

Group reporting and financial control

• Deliver monthly reporting packages to the Group CFO, including adjustments between Romanian Accounting Standards and Group reporting requirements.

• Complete intercompany reconciliations and support statutory and Group audits.

• Provide accurate data for budgeting, forecasting and management reporting, including store profitability, brand margins and working capital.

Treasury, operations and process improvement

• Oversee bank reconciliations, cash and card settlements, e-commerce payment flows and marketplace settlements.

• Manage supplier payments, wholesale receivables and documentation related to financing facilities and bank guarantees.

• Maintain internal controls for store cash handling, returns, inventory movements and approvals.

• Coordinate with the external payroll provider and review payroll accounting and related reporting.

• Improve ERP usage and automate recurring accounting processes.

What we are looking for

• Active CECCAR certification as Expert Contabil or Contabil Autorizat, in good standing.

• University degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.

• At least 5 years of accounting experience, including 2–3 years as Chief Accountant or in an equivalent role, with full responsibility for closing and statutory reporting.

• Strong, up-to-date knowledge of Romanian accounting regulations, taxation and ANAF’s digital reporting systems.

• Fluent English, both written and spoken, for daily communication with the Group and international partners.

• Advanced Excel skills and practical experience with an ERP system.

• Availability to work on-site in Bucharest.

Experience that would be an advantage

• Retail, e-commerce, fashion or cosmetics industry experience.

• Exposure to multi-store operations, high transaction volumes and inventory-intensive businesses.

• Experience with imports, intra-EU transactions and landed-cost accounting.

• IFRS knowledge and reporting experience within an international group.

• Experience with ERP implementation, system integrations or accounting process automation.

You will be a strong fit if you are organised, detail-oriented and proactive, with a clear sense of ownership. You should be comfortable managing competing deadlines and explaining financial matters clearly to colleagues outside finance.
