Ideal Candidate

We are looking for Sustainability Consultants at all levels — from motivated juniors starting their career to experienced professionals ready to lead a full disciplined area.
At junior and mid-level, you will deliver real certification projects from day one under the guidance of senior consultants, while contributing to the digital tools and workflows we are developing.
At senior level, you will take ownership of a complete expertise segment — such as construction site sustainability, energy performance, or materials and LCA — leading project delivery in your domain, mentoring junior team members, and defining how your area of expertise is translated into our platform.
Your specific focus area will depend on your background and interests. We work across multiple disciplines, and the best fit will be identified during the interview:
Architecture
  • Focus: Materials, health & wellbeing, indoor environment, responsible sourcing
  • Work: BREEAM Mat/Hea, LEED MR/EQ, WELL features, LCA, EPD review
MEP / Building Services
  • Focus: Energy efficiency, comfort, lighting, commissioning, MEP systems
  • Work: BREEAM Ene/Hea, LEED EA/EQ, energy modelling support, Cx
HSE / Environmental
  • Focus: Construction site sustainability, waste, transport, pollution
  • Work: BREEAM Man 03/Wst 01, site monitoring, utility tracking
Environmental Science
  • Focus: Cross-disciplinary assessment, ESG, carbon accounting
  • Work: Multi-credit coordination, EU Taxonomy, GHG Protocol, CSRD
Civil Engineering
  • Focus: Water, land use, ecology, flood risk, transport planning
  • Work: BREEAM Wat/Tra/Lue, LEED WE/SS, drainage, biodiversity
Regardless of your entry point or seniority level, you will gain exposure to the full breadth of our work — including the technology side.

Job Description

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver green building certification projects (BREEAM, LEED, WELL, EU Taxonomy) at junior level under guidance, at senior level independently and as project lead.
  • Review architectural drawings, MEP specifications, energy reports, and contractor submittals for compliance with certification criteria.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and developers to collect evidence and resolve compliance gaps.
  • Conduct site visits to verify responsible construction practices, waste management, and utility monitoring.
  • Perform calculations and analysis: energy and resource consumption, environmental metrics, certification scoring.
  • Support feasibility studies, pre-assessments, and client advisory on certification strategy.
  • Contribute to ESG reporting and carbon footprint calculations (GHG Protocol Scope 1/2/3) for CarbonTool clients where applicable.
  • Define how your domain should work in software: translate the manual processes you follow into structured digital workflows, data fields, and calculation rules.
  • Contribute to platform testing: validate that the tool produces correct results by comparing software outputs against your manual assessment experience.
  • Identify automation opportunities: flag repetitive tasks that could be improved with better tools and help define the requirements.
  • Research and update documentation: stay current on BREEAM, LEED, WELL, and EU Taxonomy changes, and feed updates into both consulting practice and platform specifications.
At senior level, you will additionally:
  • Own and lead a full segment of expertise (e.g., site sustainability, energy performance, materials and LCA) across all active projects.
  • Manage and mentor junior team members within your discipline.
  • Lead client relationships and represent BuildGreen in technical discussions.
  • Define product specifications for your domain: translate your deep expertise into the rules and workflows that our platform implements.
  • Participate in commercial activities: support proposal development, scope definition, and fee estimation for your area.

Company Description

BuildGreen is a sustainability consultancy and building lifecycle data platform. We help design teams, developers, and asset managers achieve green building certifications (BREEAM, LEED, WELL, EU Taxonomy) and we are building software tools to make that process faster, more accurate, and fully digital.
CarbonTool is our corporate sustainability reporting platform. It helps organisations calculate their carbon footprint, set science-based targets, and produce ESG-compliant reports — replacing the spreadsheets and manual processes that still dominate the industry.
Our team operates across consulting and technology. Every sustainability project we deliver feeds into the digital platform we are building. Every tool we develop is shaped by people who have done the work manually and know exactly where the old approach breaks. This is what makes us different: we don’t just consult — we build.
