Role Summary
Provides expert metallurgical support across Operations, R&D&I, Quality Assurance, Application Engineering, and customers.
Conducts advanced metallurgical investigations, delivers analytical reports, and recommends technical solutions.
Supports development and improvement of welding consumables for all EMEA Lincoln Electric factories.
Represents Lincoln Electric in external technical forums, committees, and conferences.
Education
Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, or similar field.
Experience
10+ years in Metallurgy, welding metallurgy, or welding consumables development/production. Experience in metallurgical characterization (microscopy, SEM/EDS, mechanical testing). Experience with welding consumable standards (AWS, EN ISO) beneficial.

Job Description

*Metallurgical Analysis & Investigations :
Conducts metallurgical and microscopic examinations (optical microscopy, SEM/EDS, hardness testing, failure analysis). Evaluates weld microstructures and heat-affected zones. Prepares technical reports and communicates results to stakeholders or customers.
*Product Development Support:
Contributes to development of new welding consumables (electrodes, cored wire, solid wire, fluxes). Supports improvements to existing products to enhance quality, performance, manufacturability, and cost. Participates in DOEs, formulation validation, and testing processes.
*Quality & Production Support
Provides metallurgical expertise to EMEA production sites for troubleshooting, root-cause investigations, and process improvements. Develops metallurgical standards and testing procedures. Supports continuous improvement initiatives.
*Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Works directly with Operations, QA, Application Engineering, and R&D teams to solve product and process issues. Assists Application Engineers with customer trials, qualifications, or complaints requiring metallurgical insight.
*External Representation & Industry Engagement:
Represent the company externally to promote its leading-edge theories, technologies, and innovations in the field of welding. Leadership positions in external technical bodies (e.g. IIW, EWA, AWS, ISO, CEN, ASME, API). Participates in standards committees and technical working groups. Presents at conferences and maintains awareness of new developments in welding metallurgy, materials science, and relevant literature.
