The Maintenance Engineer reports directly to the COO and carries full line management and supervisory responsibility for the internal Maintenance Team. The Maintenance Engineer provides technical leadership, mentors team members on complex systems, conducts performance evaluations, and oversees the daily allocation of internal technical resources alongside managing external contractors on a project basis.
Required Qualifications
Education
- University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of proven hands-on maintenance engineering experience within an industrial, commercial, or large-scale institutional facility environment.
- Demonstrated engineering mastery and diagnostic experience in at least two of the following core areas: centralized HVAC infrastructure, low-voltage/high-voltage electrical distribution installations, automated Building Management Systems (BMS), complex hydraulic/plumbing systems, or integrated fire protection systems.
- Verifiable track record of owning, configuring, and leveraging a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to execute predictive and preventive maintenance architecture.
- Proven experience defining technical scopes of work, auditing engineering specifications, and formally supervising external specialized contractors.
- Electrical authorization in accordance with ANRE regulations (grade appropriate to the school's sub-station and distribution installations).
- Health and safety training in accordance with Romanian Law 319/2006.
- Fire prevention (PSI) certification and training in accordance with Romanian Law 307/2006.
- ISCIR authorizations for all regulated pressure vessels, boilers, or lifting equipment within the campus infrastructure scope.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment documentation.
- Ability to leverage CMMS data to conduct reliability engineering, track asset lifecycles, and build data-driven predictive maintenance models in support of our Long Term Maintenance Plan (LTMP)
- Familiarity with energy-management practices and basic data analysis for maintenance KPIs.
- Working proficiency in English (B2 or above), sufficient to read technical documentation and communicate with international vendors and Group functions.
- Valid Category B driving license.
- Availability for on-call rotation outside standard working hours for critical incidents.
- Excellent organizational skills, has the ability to plan and phase high-impact works around the academic calendar (breaks, weekends, evenings) and coordinate the activities with school leadership to minimize impact to learning and events

Job Description
Preventive and corrective maintenance
- Plan, schedule, and strategically direct the maintenance team in executing preventive maintenance for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and BMS systems observing the academic year to minimize the impact to learning and events. Personally step in to execute or oversee complex diagnostics and high-impact technical faults.
- Collaborate closely with the IT Department to ensure the continuous operation and security of network-dependent facilities infrastructure, including IP- based CCTV, access control, etc.
- Diagnose and repair complex engineering faults in building systems, performing hands-on interventions where needed within the scope of qualifications and authorizations.
- Establish and maintain the critical spare-parts inventory, define minimum/maximum stock levels for critical assets, track stock movements and consumption through the CMMS, and coordinate with Procurement for timely replenishment and cost control.
- Maintain and continuously update the preventive maintenance plan in the CMMS, including frequencies, checklists, and spare-part requirements.
- Ensure all interventions are documented in the CMMS with root cause, actions taken, parts used, and time on task.
- Define the technical scope of work for external maintenance services and review vendor proposals from a technical standpoint.
- Supervise on-site interventions performed by external contractors and formally accept the completion of work.
- Provide technical input to Operations Support and the COO during vendor selection and contract renewal cycles.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with Romanian legislation on health and safety at work (Law 319/2006), fire prevention (PSI), and applicable technical standards (ISCIR, ANRE, environmental).
- Supports, contributes or supervises the good maintenance of the technical documentation, periodic inspection records, and authorizations for regulated equipment.
- Support internal and external audits (HSE, ISO 9001/14001/45001 where applicable, insurer inspections).
- Collaborates closely with the HSE Officer / Operations Compliance Manager to ensure the campus completely meets the operational and compliance standards at all times.
- Monitor, and optimize the campus Building Management System (BMS) to maximize energy efficiency and maintain optimal environmental controls across all school facilities.
- Apply formal engineering troubleshooting methodologies (e.g., FMEA, 5-Why analysis) to diagnose systemic failure modes in complex HVAC, electrical, and mechanical infrastructure.
- Conduct engineering-economic evaluations, energy-auditing analysis, and equipment lifecycle cost assessments to advise the COO on capital expenditure (CapEx) planning.
- Contribute to capital project planning by providing technical input on equipment specification and lifecycle costs.
- Directly supervise, mentor, and develop the school’s internal maintenance team, ensuring high technical standards and accountability.
- Oversee the team’s daily briefings, task assignments, leave planning, and overtime coordination to ensure optimal campus coverage.
- Assess technical skill gaps within the maintenance team and implement training programs, specifically regarding safety legislation, BMS, and advanced HVAC troubleshooting.
- Provide weekly operational updates to the leadership team on work-order status, open issues, and risks.
- Produce monthly maintenance performance reports (uptime, MTTR (mean time to repair), MTBF (mean time between failures), planned vs. reactive ratio, spend vs. budget) for review with the COO.
- Monitors Maintenance spend vs. approved budget (target: within ±5%).
- Immediately escalate any incident with business-continuity, safety, or significant cost impact.
- Leads the notification process of technical or infrastructure incidents recorded in the campus and follows-up until resolution.
