The role
We are looking for a Team Leader to manage the Enterprise software delivery team based in Cluj, responsible for building and operating high quality, scalable, secure Betfair products that are always available through catastrophe and planned maintenance alike. The team develops software in partnership with the Enterprise software team based in London - as such, the Team Leader must ensure good communication channels exist between the two teams and that the Cluj team consistently applies and continuously improves its development and testing practices.

The Team Leader in Cluj will report to the Enterprise Engineering Manager in London and will establish a powerful working relationship with Development and QA Leads in London to ensure that the team is working optimally and is adhering to best practices. The Team Leader will also need to develop relationships with Product Owners who supply the team with requirements and priorities.

As the Team Leader you will
Recruit and build high performance teams
Maintain highly effective partnerships with the Engineering Manager and Leads in London
Communicate technical, product and company strategy to the Cluj team
Familiarise yourself with Betfairs engineering practices, work with Leads to apply these most effectively in Cluj and make recommendations on process improvements
Assume overall responsibility for the software deliverables of the Enterprise team in Cluj
Work closely with Product Managers to understand business requirements and benefits
Ensure functional and non-functional requirements are always met by the team
Ensure all team members have regular objectives, performance reviews and career plans
Provide engineering values and philosophies to team
Sweep away obstacles for delivery team
Maintain agile practices (Scrum and XP) and philosophies including simplicity, visibility and direct communication
Effectively utilise technical experts
To be a Team Leader you must
Be passionate about technology and active in the technical community
Have experience of working with a full project lifecycle, including agile with SCRUM and XP
Have experience building teams, motivating people and managing performance
Demonstrate good stakeholder management, expectation setting and communication skills
Appreciate commercial imperatives and business/cost implications
But to be an exceptional Team Leader you might also
Hold an engineering or scientific qualification with experience turning that academic knowledge into commercial value
Have some previous experience in the finance/trading industry
Have effectively worked in distributed development teams
