RESPONSABILITATI / BENEFICII:
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees seeks a qualified candidate to fill
the position of Associate Protection Officer at the UNHCR Representation in
Bucharest, Romania.
Grade of the position: NOB
Under the direct supervision of the Representative, the incumbent will perform
the following duties
• Promotes the elaboration and approval of a municipal law for the determination of
refugee status and presents propositions to appropriate authorities;
• Intervenes with authorities when there are violations of refugee law, e.g. abusive
detention, arbitrary detention, abduction, etc.;
• Assists in the eligibility interviews and provides protection to refugees and persons of
concern to UNHCR;
• Undertakes regular visits to field sites in the region and monitors all protection issues,
meets with refugees and local authorities to be fully aware of the situation;
• Participates in training activities in the field of refugees and human rights law for
selected groups, such as implementing partners and local authorities;
• Assists in assessment needs for durable solutions, individual and mass repatriation,
resettlements and local integration, as and when necessary and provides
recommendations to supervisor;
• Undertakes other duties as required.
Requirements
1. Fluency in English and Romanian. Knowledge of another UN language is an asset
2. Ability to work in a team and in a multi-cultural environment without racial, religious,
political and gender prejudice
3. Computer skills, Microsoft Office pack. Knowledge of UN computer tools is an asset
4. Minimum 2 years previous work experience relevant to the function
5. Secondary education in Law, International Law, Political Science or related field
