History
FERCHAU Engineering GmbH, known at the time as FERCHAU Konstruktion, was founded by Heinz Ferchau in 1966. What was originally a one-man business has now grown into Germany's biggest engineering and IT services provider, with more than 8,400 employees (as at 31 December 2018). 2018 sales stood at over 730 million euros.
In the Sixties it was above all the chemical industry that was crying out for qualified engineers. Having successfully established itself, the company opened its first branch office in Stuttgart in 1972. In 2001, Frank Ferchau joined the Management Board which he headed two years later. In 2012, the family enterprise drafted together with the German Metal Workers' Union (IG Metall) the first in-house agreement, which was valid until the end of 2017. As of 1 January 2018, the engineering and IT service provider adopted the regional collective agreement of the Federal Employers' Association.
Meantime, FERCHAU Engineering GmbH has grown to over 100 branches and locations plus over 110 technical offices and project groups. In 2014, the engineering services provider founded FERCHAU Engineering Austria GmbH in Linz (Austria). In 2016, FERCHAU celebrated its 50th anniversary.

Market leader
"If you look at trends in future employment and workforce needs, you realize that there are no permanent patterns when it comes to engineering services," says Frank Ferchau, Managing Partner and son of the company founder. Customers have access to more than 8,400 highly qualified employees. Engineers, IT consultants, technicians and draughtspersons are there to handle all the activities involved in project work. Planning, project conception, development, design, documentation and programming - for every one of these tasks FERCHAU sets up individual project groups. 
For the customer this means flexibility in project planning, greater project assurance, competence in identifying solutions and overall technical competence. Our nationwide presence ensures local support wherever the client is located. The availability of CAE equipment when and where needed, on more than thirty systems in current use, makes it possible to optimize interface solutions. The ongoing training of FERCHAU employees and continuous tailoring of hardware and software to changing needs give a guarantee of expertise of the highest order.

Customers and areas of competence
FERCHAU is active in all areas of engineering. These include machinery and plant construction, electrical engineering, automotive technology, IT, aviation and aerospace, as well as shipbuilding and marine engineering.
The portfolio of the engineering services provider is divided into three areas: Engineering Support, Engineering Competence and Managed Services.
The company's regular client base features the "Who's Who" of German industry: from ABB and ALSTOM via BMW, Carl Zeiss, EADS, Philips, Areva and Continental all the way to Siemens.
The AVIATION GROUP Division pools the expertise for aerospace as well as General Engineering and operates internationally - with locations in Bremen, Hamburg, Rostock-Warnemünde, München, Donauwörth, Bristol, Bournemouth, Paris, Toulouse, Marignane, Sophia Antipolis, Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Sevilla and the Indian city of Bangalore.
On top of this, FERCHAU set up a MARINE Division in Bremerhaven in 2006, concentrating on shipbuilding and offshore technology. Further MARINE locations operate out of Bremen, Hamburg, Kiel, Rostock, Leer and Danzig.
Finally, in 2017, the AUTOMOTIVE Division was established, in order to offer customers from the automotive industry and its suppliers tailored mobility solutions along the entire value chain. FERCHAU AUTOMOTIVE is represented with locations in Weissach, Ingolstadt, Köln, München, Rüsselsheim, Stuttgart and Wolfsburg.

Employee loyalty
Last year FERCHAU invested 10 million euros in further education and training. Besides a broad spectrum of career options, the engineering services provider encourages individual concepts for a healthy work-life balance. 
The Gummersbach-based family enterprise has been repeatedly named as an outstanding employer in studies and surveys. The magazine FOCUS commended FERCHAU together with XING and kununu in three different industry categories for large companies: in the "Services" sector (3rd place), "Consultants, agencies, law firms, research and technology" (3rd) and "Automotive and component suppliers" (17th). In the "Student Survey" and "trendence Graduate Barometer", students rated the engineering services provider as one of the most attractive employers.
