QUALIFYING CRITERIA

–Previous experience as a sommelier

–Passion and knowledge of wine

–Knowledge & experience of five-star hospitality an advantage, and works to a high-quality standard.

–Resourceful and self-motivating.

–Good organisational and problem-solving skills.

–Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

–Customer focused, with a positive, can do attitude.

–Ability to work flexible hours.

–Ability to remain calm whilst under pressure.

Job Title: Sommelier

Department: Food & Beverage

Responsible To: Food and Beverage Management

Main Purpose of Job: A Sommelier, also known as a wine steward, is a wine expert who works in a restaurant, bar, winery, culinary school or retail outlet. Sommelier job duties include helping customers and servers select wine pairings, procuring and managing wines, and conducting the wine service.

Liaises with: Culinary Department, Stewarding, Reservations, Front Desk

MAINDUTIES

A successful Sommelier has an in-depth knowledge of wines, as well as the ability to quickly recall and share complex information about different types of wines, wine pairings and tasting notes. Their main responsibility is to promote wine sales through staff and customer education, and by:

Have a thorough knowledge and understanding of each menu item presented to our members and guests.

Have knowledge of wine

Greeting and seating the customer- help the customer choose their meal and wines and take their order

training new employees recruited

Develop team spirit and motivation by creating a good working atmosphere

Maintaining the wine stock

Creating a wine list and writing wine descriptions

Suggesting food and wine pairings to servers and customers

Recommending wines based on customer preferences

Training waitstaff on wines

Conducting wine tastings for staff and customers

Teaching wine courses

Ensure that all guests requests are responded to immediately.
