Windows Systems Engineer (Windows and Messaging)

Qualifications

• University degree preferably in Information Technology or a related discipline
• At least five years professional experience in Windows Systems Administration and IT Systems Management in general
• Experience in implementing, administering and troubleshooting Windows clusters, Windows load balancing and Exchange
• Additional experience in administering virtual environments (VMWare), UNIX, Linux or storage systems would be considered an advantage
• In-depth knowledge of Windows system administration is required
• Relevant professional certifications, in particular with messaging specialisation, are considered an advantage
• Advanced knowledge of messaging (Exchange 2007), collaboration and communication software packages (Sharepoint, OCS), including design, implementation, configuration, administration and support
• Good knowledge of infrastructure services such as DHCP, DNS and LDAP
• Knowledge of monitoring, reporting and system management tools (SCOM)
• Substantial understanding of IT Security practices
• Good understanding of networking is considered an advantage
• Proven Project Management skills and experience
• Excellent knowledge of English or French and a good knowledge of the other

Responsibilities

• Handle the evolution, design, implementation, management, administration and support of the Bank’s Windows based infrastructure, messaging and collaboration systems
• Play a “hands-on” role in the above-mentioned areas when applicable, ensuring service delivery in the different areas of responsibility
• Manage Windows and Messaging infrastructure related projects in collaboration with the Head of Unit Engineering and the Head of Division
• Coordinate the activities carried out by a team of external consultants associated with the delivery of the above mentioned services
• Play a “coaching” role, from a technical perspective, within the team towards team members that are less senior in terms of experience and knowledge in the above mentioned areas
• Take initiative to follow-up and evaluate emerging technologies, determine whether they would be beneficial for the EIB and provide feedback to the Head of Unit Engineering
• Regularly assess the current architecture as well as the operational processes in place, identify points for improvement and report findings to the Head of Unit Engineering
• Implement the security guidelines and policies recommended by the IT Security Unit and the results of internal and external audits
• Contribute to the Unit’s knowledge database with regards to Microsoft based technologies and products


Appointment to the post is for a fixed period of 5 years with the possibility of prolongation


The successful candidate will handle the evolution, design, implementation, management, support and maintenance of the Bank’s Windows based infrastructure as well as messaging and collaboration systems; and take responsibility for managing contracts and external consultants related to his/her area of responsibility. During 2010 we will be implementing leading edge technology solutions within this particular area (Exchange 2010, Windows 2008 cluster, Windows 7, etc.).

S/he will report to the Head of Unit Engineering and will work in close collaboration with other units in the Technical Support and Architecture Division, and other IT Divisions. S/he will keep in contact with relevant suppliers and vendors.
