Engineer, Switching

Requirements:

• Technical University degree
• 2 to 3 years of experience in telecommunication field
• 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar role
• Good knowledge of switching, transmission and data networking (3G, SMSC, PBX, ISDN, GPRS, ATM, LAN/WAN, IP Routing)
• Very good communication skills
• Proved budgeting and negotiation skills
• Excellent English skills

Role:

Participate to all activities related to design, engineering and implementation of 2G/3G core network (CS, PS) according to the marketing forecast, Vodafone INTP (Integrated Network Technology Plan), quality of services design principles and business continuity plan.
This job is focused on engineering and implementation activities, where the engineer will participate to projects and rollout process as a resource.


Key responsibilities:

• Assess and define capacity requirements for the core network:
o Gateways, switching/routing platforms
o Numbering allocation, signalling systems
• Prepare and update the routing, signalling and numbering plans. Manage all these plans’ modifications involved by new services/nodes, including the overflow scheme. Manage the short-numbers allocation.
• Participate to assessment of network requirements for the introduction of planned new products (equipments or services). Outline technical design of network architecture for network expansion/upgrade.
• Participate to projects related to the integration of new 2G/3G nodes and adjacent nodes:
o MSC-Server/VLR, MGW, HLR, Transit Soft Switches, STP
o IN platforms, SMSC, VMS, PBX, IVR, IP-telephony solutions
o Define the HW&SW configuration of the new nodes to be installed
• Prepare the initial configuration files for these nodes
• Provide inputs for traffic forecasts:
o Analyse capacity utilisation vs. traffic levels in order to review capacity requirements
• Provide level3 fault management:
o Perform unprecedented fault diagnosis, solution identification and repair (if it can be done remotely)
o May require vendor’s involvement
• Monitor and analyse network performance over time to track any underlying trends or problems of core network elements, in order to keep the quality of services at the highest standards.
• Participate to implementation process of interconnection with other mobile and fixed national operators.
• Participate to process of changing signalling, routing and numbering plans used in interconnection with international carriers.
