VMWare Administrator

This role requires excellent communication skills, both with team members and business contacts at different levels. This role will develop and implement procedures for ensuring proactive management of the virtualization environment. This role requires excellent troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.

Mandatory skills:
• Should have good communication and customer interaction skills.
• Global exposure in large environments would be preferred.
• MCSE / MCSA / VCP / V Sphere are desired.
• Experience supporting servers in a LAN/WAN environment
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Strong technical problem solving skills
• Strong customer relations skills
• Ability to learn and apply new technology and methodologies in a distributed environment
• Ability to solve problems quickly and completely

Nice to have skills:
• Management infrastructure tools (NAGIOS, OpenView etc)
• Windows 2003/2008 monitoring & troubleshooting
• Linux Redhat / Unix
• Cisco Firewalls, switches and routers
• Virtualization - VMWare.

What to do:
• Participate in on-call rotation of 24x7 support and be flexible in availability as needed
• Knowledge on ESX servers from command line
• Monitoring and Performance analysis on ESX Servers and VMs
• Patching of ESX severs and VMs with VMware Update manager
• Allocation of storage spaces to VMs through SAN
• Ability to work with VSPHERE / VMware Consolidated Backup / Virtual machine backups
• Participate in functional test planning and testing for the virtual environment and related applications
• Participate in problem solving and troubleshooting for the virtual environment and related applications
• Facilitate knowledge sharing by creating and maintaining detailed and comprehensive documentation and diagrams. Maintain expert level of knowledge in area of expertise.
