Senior Java Developer

You can work independently from high level input you receive from the product manager or directly from the customer contact. You are a good communicator and team worker and understand which questions need to be discussed within the development team. You have a critical and analytical mind. You are solution oriented. You aim for the highest quality and are open to learning.
Technical skills include a solid knowledge of general and OO software development and experience in at least Java or C#. You have a good understanding of enterprise and web application development. You have insight in object relation mapping, threading, synchronisation, memory allocation, garbage collection. You have notions of clustering approaches and implications. You have insight in relation database strengths, weaknesses and transactional behaviour. You have a thorough understanding of working with XML. Experience with scripting languages (javascript, php, python, ruby, perl), XSLT, RIA technologies (flex, gwt) are assets.

Your English is fluent, both spoken and written. German or French knowledge is an asset. You have a master level in computer science or equivalent by experience. You have 3-6 years industry experience.

Within UnifiedPost, you will work on core platform components and customer specific extensions. You will work together with a team of senior developers and architects located in UnifiedPost Belgium Headquarters. UnifiedPost employs principles from Agile/XP software methodologies (refactoring, test driven development). As a senior developer you are responsible for analysis, architectural designs and improvements and the overall product quality (through thorough testing).

The platform uses state of the art technologies from the JBoss stack: EJB3/JPA, SEAM, JBPM, etc and is internally designed in a component oriented manner and a more coarse grained level in a service oriented manner. IOC is used to glue services and components together. Annotations are used heavily. Some platform components have near real time requirements. Scalability requirements both towards nr of users and processing throughput are challenging.

A full Maven based build environment is in place. IDE preference is open to you but code formatting and naming conventions are in place. JIRA is used as a management tool. SVN is used for versioning. Development is done on MS Windows, test and production machines are Linux based.
UnifiedPost largely works project oriented where a project typically is 10 to 200 person days of work and lasts up to a 3 months.
