Project Designer

Required:

• Educated to High (Technical) School or above, proven design experience within a electrical process or piping environment
• Technical understanding of piping materials, components, valves, and familiarity with piping isometrics, P&ID’s, piping symbols as well as with electrical symbols and scheme’s
• Be a self-starter/self-motivated, detail oriented and a good communicator, both written and oral.
• Act as an “Ambassador” for Tyco when interacting with Clients
• Computer literate – able to utilise in-house Tyco design software packages and proficient in a wide variety of MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Access)
• Be able to exemplify our core values: Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence, and Accountability
• Fluently in English (speaking / written)

Preferred:

• Previous experience within the Oil, Gas or Petrochemical industries. Experience could have been gained through office based design and/or site based design/commissioning (industrial piping and/or insulation)
• Previous knowledge of trace heating design and/or electrical principles would be an advantage
• Experience in AutoCad 2007 (or other packages such as Microstation, PDMS etc.)
• Full driving licence
• Must be prepared on occasions to stay away from base on company business.

JOB PURPOSE:
Working within the Project Execution Department the job holder will produce detailed engineering designs of heat tracing systems for company projects worldwide.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• In this position, the designer analyzes customer provided drawings and specifications and designs heating systems that meet the customer’s technical needs and requirements, whilst taking account of Tyco’s commercial constraints.

• Interpret piping and instrument diagrams, plot plans, piping isometrics, piping plan drawings, piping specifications and bills of materials, area classification drawings, and instrument details.

• Produce engineering calculations and Heat Tracing Designs using in-house design software programs and other such tools

• Be capable of carrying out the design activities within tight schedules and budgets.

• Represent Tyco Thermal Controls (TTC) in engineering design discussions with, for example, Clients and sub-contractors

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with other (TTC) functions such as CAD and Electrical Design with the aim of improving the efficiency and accuracy of the flow of work through the design office

• Participate in development and improvement initiatives, and undertake internal and external training and product awareness.
