Technical Architect – Games

Position Purpose:
We require a highly skilled architect with hands-on experience delivering large scale distributed systems to join the Architecture team working on Betfair products.

Betfair is a global online betting and gaming company operating a number of world-leading products offered through multiple channels and across several continents. Our continued business success and growth demand a lot from our technology, including transaction volumes that surpass many of the world’s leading financial institutions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for Betfair’s rapidly expanding games technology portfolio. The successful candidate will inspire and lead their colleagues to meet the challenge that rapid growth is bringing to our company.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
• Devise architecture for Betfair’s games systems
• Work as part of a team defining all facets of Betfair’s technology vision
• Evangelise technology and communicate technical strategy within Betfair
• Identify key technologies to enhance Betfair’s strategic advantage
• Supervise the composition of detailed design and architectural documentation
• Promote the companies technology externally in industry groups

Skills & Attributes
• Broad technical knowledge, complemented by practical in-depth experience of one or more of application server, database or distributed computing technologies
• Strong communication and documentation skills
• Ability to communicate with mixed technical and non-technical audiences
• Team player with a clear understanding of the route from design to deployment
• Flexible attitude and ability to meet deadlines under pressure

Experience & Qualifications
• 5+ years software development experience, finance or e-commerce background preferred
• A relevant degree or equivalent professional certification desirable
• Capability to design large-scale, highly distributed event driven architectures
• Exposure to highly-transactional or very high throughput systems
• Experience of delivering multi-channel applications on a Java/Oracle platform
• Web technologies, large databases, networking e.g. TCP/IP and a variety of current languages
