Staff Engineer – Senior Tech Lead

Preferred experience:

1) 8+ years of hands-on development and/or integration experience
2) 3+years experience as software integration architect and/or software integration designer and/or integration solution architecture from professional services
3) Experience with Solaris and /or Linux operating systems preferably one of the following Linux distros:- Red Hat, SUSE on advanced system administration level
4) 3+ years of exposure technical leading projects ( in project role )
5) In depth understanding of software design related issues in the data-center including at the Platform layer all the way to application software deployment.
6) Good design and programming skills in Perl, Shell, Java,C or C++, XML, UML ( not locked to any of programming languages – universal )
7) Very good facilitator in design decision making, experience dealing with contradictory customer requirements
8) Proven track of record of requirements gathering and analyses skills in applied in software design or solution design projects
9) Ability to lead virtual team ( global teams ) and resolve people conflicts
10) Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
11) Good understanding of integration aspects of from software life-cycle methodologies
12) Present and defend technical solutions inside and outside of group
13) Ability to document designs and implementations
14) Strong analytical skills and passion for analyzing complex technical systems

Job Description:

Responsible for technical leadership and individual contribution to OEM Engineering Platforms group. This is a highly visible senior software engineering position that will provide technical leadership to a team that works on multiple product trains. Successful candidate will be able to contribute at multiple levels on simultaneous OEM project initiatives. Candidate will often be called upon to analyze difficult problems which span Sun Microsystems business units and software/hardware products. This is a hands-on position and requires System-level Software integration and strong design skills . The candidate would interact very closely with Chief Engineer , Tech Leads and the Architects. The focus area is on integration of components not on software development. Engineering management will look to this Individual Contributor for input on strategic initiatives and for driving improvement initiatives across the organization. The successful candidate will also be expected to guide and mentor other team members . This position will have a wide visibility and large impact on the performance, stability and functionality of OEM Platform initiatives.

Key activities for this role:

1) Translate the high level product requirements from different sources: direct customer interaction, Architects, Field, Product Marketing etc. into engineering requirements. (creates design artifacts)
2) Provide technical guidance to engineers in all phases of projects or non project activities
3) Drive technical reviews - code reviews, technical docs reviews
4) Perform hands-on tasks – exploration tasks, complex integration tasks, can be used as senior resource in integration engineering area
5) Drive review process of design artifacts with all stakeholders
6) Interact with peers from other organizations providing platform components technical feasibility and manage the technical dependencies
7) Research different products including open source products to recommend components for the platform to meet OEM customer needs
8) Provide support in technical feasibility analysis for securing new Design Wins for the OEM business unit
9) customer and field interaction
