CANDIDATUL IDEAL:

Experience/Skills:

- University degree, graduate degree preferred;

- Management of a small team;

- Management of external contractors;

- Website management and development, including web writing, editing and testing;

- Experience using/developing CMSs ideally Drupal;

- Writing skills. In particular documentation, technical specifications, requirements and call for tenders;

- Use of PHP, HTML, MySQL, and CSS;

- Knowledge of Data Migration;

- IT project management;

- Interest in transitional settlements and shelter, town planning, architecture, construction;

- Proficiency in English.


RESPONSABILITATI / BENEFICII:

This is an exciting opportunity for the Web Project Manager (Drupal) to manage, maintain and further develop Shelter Centre web information services which is used daily by NGO and UN field workers in humanitarian operations worldwide.

More specifically he/she will be responsible for:

1.-Daily management of the website

This includes:

- Managing Interns and coordinating activities related to the everyday functioning of the website;

- Writing, editing, and testing. Basically in HTML;

- Researching new content and sources of information relevant to the sector, to ensure the site remains up-to-date. This include new publications, case studies, training material, sector news, events and jobs;

- Moderate user contributions;

- Manage the user registration by verifying references, contacting potential members and approving them when appropriate;

- Manage the documentation of the processes required to manage the website content up to date.

2.- Bug Fixing and improving the website

Using analytics and user feedback:

- Improve the architecture of the platform, by experimenting new developments in the development and quality assurance servers before going into production;

- Using a ticketing system, keep polishing and improving the current website. Prioritize tickets and assign them to the adequate party.

- Manage consultants/shops, interns and yourself to bug-fix.

3.- Manage new developments

Together with the Executive Director keep drafting a medium-long term strategy for the services that should be provided to the community and the office.

- Studying the analytics and understanding the use of the web thanks to feedback from the community of practice and ensuring content is targeted at the needs of the sector;

- Providing recommendations and drawing up specifications for further stages of development, this include:

• Migrating to latest Drupal version;

• Managing the necessary consultants, Drupal shops and Interns to develop new "case studies" machine integrated with maps and faceted search;

• Managing the new sprints of development to improve functionalities and theming.



4.- Other technical tasks

In addition to the web, the incumbent should:

- Manage the email system in the office (based on google apps)

- Manage the file servers

- Manage the Virtual Private Servers where the websites (live, quality assurance and development) are base. They run Ubuntu and they are reachable via ssh.

- Manage all the computer related issues in the office. This include networks, printers, help-desk, and others.

- In the Shelter Meetings, make sure that all the IT related things are on place. This include webcasting, projectors, internet connection, conferences, etc...



5.- New Projects

Shelter Centre might be involved in new web development projects for third agencies such as the United Nations and the World Bank:

- Develop similar Drupal platforms for these agencies.

- Manage all the process from user requirement documentation, to architecture proposals to technical specifications, call for tender, project management, implementation and maintenance.



Shelter Centre is a small office whose work includes the drafting and evaluation of guidelines, the development of policy, equipment, coordination tools and training, and the organisation and facilitation of meetings, conferences and workshops. The successful applicant can expect to spend a proportion of his or her time working on the duties supporting these functions.

Shelter Centre is a non-governmental organisation registered in Switzerland which supports the sector of humanitarian operations that responds to the transitional settlement and reconstruction needs of populations affected by conflicts and natural disasters, from the emergency phase until durable solutions are reached.

Shelter Centre's website is based on Drupal, an Open Source Content Management System (CMS) that uses some of the latest technologies in order to support the community of practice working to provide shelter following humanitarian crises.

Shelter Centre's website was developed by one of the leading software companies worldwide that has developed websites for World Food Programme, World Bank and Human Rights Watch. It is one of the first websites supporting humanitarian response that follows the Web 2.0 approach of supporting interaction within a community of practice.
