Prerequisites for Employment:
1. The Company typically does not promote into this position. New hires will preferably possess current work experience as a Radio Operator within marine industry.
2. Successfully demonstrate physical ability to perform essential job functions.
3. Must successfully pass pre-placement physical examination.
4. Must be able to perform functions safely.
5. Must be able to comply with Company rules.
6. Must successfully satisfy all applicable international regulatory body and client training certification and/or marine license/document requirements.
7. Fluent in English speaking, reading and writing.

RESPONSABILITATI / BENEFICII:
JOB SUMMARY
The Radio Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective operation of all the communications equipment on board. His principal responsibility is to operate and maintain the equipment that would be used for emergency reporting to the highest standards.
General
1. Operate radio and other associated communications equipment.
2. Monitor the marine frequencies for pertinent transmissions.
3. Transcribe and file radio traffic messages and telexes.
4. Assist with the maintenance of V.H.S. equipment, antenna systems, spare parts inventory, emergency batteries, lifeboat radios and public address system.
5. Maintain a log of communications to and from the drilling unit.
6. Maintain an arrival / departure log of transportation to and from the rig. This includes all helicopter and boat movements.
7. Responsible for co-coordinating transportation and providing information on weather conditions to shore bases as required.
8. Liaise with Helicopter Landing Officer reference helicopter movements.
9. Ensure compliance with requirements for radios and other communication equipment during periods of radio silence.
Emergency Response
1. Knows, and properly executes, emergency assignment in accordance with station bill.
2. The radio operator must be knowledgeable on the emergency procedures in regards to radio room operations during an emergency. He must have ready access to all emergency contact numbers and frequencies.
3. Knows rig abandonment procedures and is prepared to act quickly and calmly under direction of the Master.
4. In case of fire, knows the location, and use, of the alarm systems.
5. In case of personal injury, are prepared to render assistance, within qualifications, and report any knowledge of the injury to rig supervisors.
6. In case of equipment damage, reports it to the relevant supervisor immediately.
Rough Weather Procedures
1. Keep an hourly log of weather conditions during periods of rough weather.
2. To keep all parties informed as weather deteriorates in order that all are aware that drilling operations may have to be suspended.
Other Job Functions
1. Be knowledgeable of all Company safety policies and procedures that pertain to his area of responsibility. This includes fire fighting, emergency and lifesaving equipment.
2. Maintain area of work in a clean and orderly manner, free of hazards.
3. Participate in Safety meetings.
4. Attend on board training meetings.
5. Attend shore-based training schools as directed by the Company.
6. Practice safety, both on and off the job.
7. Complete, as directed, any required paperwork.
8. Must be knowledgeable regarding various functions of other rig departments and shore base operations.
9. Must represent the Company in a professional manner both on and off the job to include confidentiality of Company and Client business.
10. Perform any other duties, which may be directed by his supervisor
Drill crew will join a project offshore in Greece commencing end of January.
- The work rotation will be 28 days on the rig and 28 days at home, throughout 2009.
- Will be required to work 12 hours shifts whilst on the rig and shore leave will not be permitted.
- Will need to be able to speak, read and write English in order that they are able to fully participate in the onboard safety programme.
- Seaman's book required.
