CANDIDATUL IDEAL:
Background:
A Medic is responsible for implementing SBM medical policies and specifically for ensuring that the pharmacy and sickbay are fully stocked and prepared for medical requirements. He must also ensure medical administration is current accurate and confidential as appropriate.
Authority:
The Medic is authorized to manage the Sickbay, Pharmacy, relevant Stock Control, Alcohol and Drug tests, and appropriate record keeping.
Immediate Subordinates:
Assistant Medics / Nurses as appropriate.
Accountable For: Typical Responsibilities & Standards
1) Maintain Health and Safety Systems and the Working Environment to Conform to Statutory and Organizational Requirements.
- Make up to date medical information easily available to relevant personnel.
- Implement Safety Management Systems within personal responsibility and in accordance with SEP and Operational requirements.
- Identify deviations from statutory and organizational requirements and take action.
- Implement Alcohol and Drugs policy by applying appropriate tests
- Provide accurate reports to relevant personnel on request.
2) Contribute to the Development and Maintenance of Health and Safety Culture at the Workplace including implementation of Preventative and Protective measures.
- Provide appropriate presentations to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle for offshore personnel
- Implement Alcohol and Drugs policy by applying appropriate tests
- Advise shorebase and OIM of updates to current medical legislation
- Liaise with onshore support to ensure optimum current practices are adopted
- Ensure that health, hygiene and safety requirements are maintained to appropriate legislative standards
- Prepare for and perform routine inspections where necessary
3) Provide Medical Treatment On Board And Provide Support During Emergency Response Situations And Drills.
- Maintain relevant, certified, medical training / refresher training as required for offshore position.
- Provide medical diagnoses and treatment and First Aid on board as required
- Provide support during emergency response situations and drills.
- Treat patients with due confidentiality and respect.
4) Contribute to the reporting, investigation and follow up of Accidents and Incidents.
- Appropriate medical details of accidents and incidents are accurately and fully reported within the required timescale in accordance with organizational and statutory requirements
- Accurate details of accidents and incidents are obtained from witnesses where these pertain to medical issues.
- Information collected is interpreted and appropriate recommendations are made, based on an accurate analysis of valid and reliable information
- Reports and support material are obtained in accordance with organizational requirements
- Relevant recommendations are made to achieve improvements in, and compliance with, health and safety standards and are based on an accurate analysis of valid and reliable information
5) Perform General Platform Administration Duties As Required Including Presentation Of Information And Demonstration To Relevant Learners.
- Provide appropriate presentations to promote a safe and healthy lifestyle for offshore personnel
- Provide in-house training on new equipment, first aid practice etc. where required
- Maintain records of all medical training on board and provide medical statistics for OIM and shorebase analysis
- Maintain stocks of medical supplies and maintain accurate records of drugs and consumables
Qualifications and Experience:
Medical certification by internationally recognised organization to Nurse standard (higher qualification desirable).
3 years experience in Accident and Emergency Nursing with offshore experience preferred.
Practical computer skills, in particular MS-Excel, MS-Word.
Personal Skills
Personal: Safety aware. Professional, Conscientious, Positive,
Leadership: Good levels of written and spoken communication. Initiative in providing relevant Healthy Lifestyle and Medical information
Technical: Appropriate standard of technical and professional knowledge, as defined by medical qualifications. Basic faultfinding in medical equipment systems.
IT: Can use standard MS Office package, electronic mail system.

6) Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures
1. Unplanned discharges to the environment are identified, halted where possible, and reported according to policy, procedure and regulation.
2. Medical, waste or other materials for disposal are dealt with according to the correct procedure.
3. Relevant PPE is used to deal with unplanned discharges using company procedures
4. Environmental protection and pollution control are enforced effectively with colleagues, subordinates and subcontractors.
7) Emergency Response
- Carry out Emergency Response role
- During Emergency Response Drills and training exercises, demonstrate competence.
