Consultant - Infrastructure

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

1) Essential Experience
• BA/BSc degree or equivalent work experience.
• Proven consultancy skills preferably in large-scale customer environments.

2) Technical /Functional Skills
• Experience of architecture of complex Windows server infrastructures incorporating some or all of the following:
o Windows Server 2003
o Active Directory
o IIS (Internet Information Server)
o SQL Server
o Office Sharepoint Server 2007
o ISA Server
o Exchange Server
o OCS / LCS
o Windows security design and implementation
o Networking technologies (e.g. DHCP, DNS, WINS, IPSec, RADIUS, RAS and associated services)
o Automated server deployment technologies (e.g. ADS, APF)
o Systems management technologies (e.g. WSUS, SMS, Microsoft System Center)
o High-availability technologies (e.g. load balancing, clustering, building redundant networks, SAN architecture)
o Backup / Restore solutions
o Building disaster recovery plans
o Single sign-on technologies
o Knowledge of Longhorn server (desirable)

• Frameworks
o Windows Server System Reference Architecture (WSSRA) (desirable)
o Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF)
o Microsoft Operations Framework (MOF) and ITIL
o Team leadership skills
o Expert troubleshooting and problem resolution skills in the areas of Windows infrastructure
o Project management skills (desirable)

ROLE PURPOSE

The role is part of a team of Microsoft Consultants working in often technically complex scenarios. It will involve interfacing with other project team members, building solutions based on Microsoft’s enterprise products and other supporting technologies. Typically these projects are working with pre-release or recently released software, often delivering solutions of a type or scale that has no or less precedents.
It requires the ability to occasionally operate in complex technical or political environments where limited / no assistance may be available
You will be expected to contribute to the wider Microsoft Community through the creation of best practices and IP generation. You will need a strong passion for technology and a desire to be a part of a team building solutions for a variety of customers. This role may involve working on long term projects, proof of concepts, and consulting engagements either in Microsoft premises or at the customer site. You must be willing to travel when required.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

o Be a team member of the most diverse and complex scope of consulting engagements.
o Act as technical or business resource for broad and complex issues, and often assigned to strategic accounts.
o Provide advice and guidance to customers and other consultants where appropriate.
o Efficiently and creatively perform complex consulting engagements on a frequent basis.
o Strategically analyse the risks, benefits, and opportunities of various solutions as needed.
o Maintain and build strong partner relationships.
o Manage ad hoc customer incidents very effectively.
o Perform Technical Troubleshooting to high and low level.
 Provide to the customer services and solutions that effectively leverage MS business, products, programs and services into a number of complex customer environments.
o Ensuring that the Microsoft elements of the platform solution are designed in line with current best practice and will deliver a scalable, secure and high availability platform which meets the known requirements.
o Conduct high and low level reviews of designs against known Microsoft common practice.
o Sharing Microsoft best practice, exploring requirements and increasing the knowledge of the customer team.
o Delivering awareness and guidance about the infrastructure platform and the interaction of applications with that platform as solutions are developed.
o Provide technological “best practice” input to both MS communities and Microsoft.
