The Network Admin strives to provide staff with uninterrupted access to network resources on offices and around the world.

The Network Admin will be responsible for investigating, tracking and concluding security incidents that have occurred within the residence hall network - for example, tracking down rogue DHCP servers, investigating hack attempts from or to residence hall computers, and enforcing bandwidth, copyright and other policies.

The Network Admin communicates regularly with staff of the IT Management Department on offices and updates them on active security cases.

ENFORCE NETWORK SECURITY POLICIES
Respond to reported security violations received from staff and from other offices departments and organizations outside the Company.

Investigate validity of report (check appropriate logs, try to duplicate complaint, call resident to request further information).

Follow up with affected staff regarding the cause of the incident (assess resident's involvement, clearly communicate IIS security policies). Conduct audits of resident's machines when necessary.

Document security incidents for our records. Respond to the organization forwarding the complaint (while abiding by regulations regarding confidentiality). Update incident record in the system.

Assist in developing tools to monitor the network for suspicious activity.

Run and verify output from weekly bandwidth enforcement scripts.


PROACTIVE SECURITY
Identify and notify residents of vulnerable computers.
Investigate suspicious network activity (bandwidth spikes, DHCP problems).
Develop and implement regular network scanning procedures.

OTHER
Meet with IT Manager weekly and provide weekly written status reports.
Generate summary reports of security incident statistics.
Read security mailing lists and websites in order to keep up-to-date with latest security issues.
Investigate new security tools and technologies that may be suitable for deployment.
