GUI Designer/Developer

Core Technical Competencies:
- At least two years developing object-oriented applications using Java with AWT, Swing, SWT etc.
- Experience in Internet technologies with regard to client-server communication protocols, Security infrastructure and deployment options.

Advantages:
- SunOne Web Server (iPlanet), Apache or a similar Web Server.
- J2EE: Servlets, JSP, JMS.
- HTTP, SSL and clients certificates.
- Ideally, experience in designing, developing, deploying and testing server-side components of a multi-tiered applications system using distributed object technology (e.g. EJB, RMI, CORBA).
- Message-orientated middleware experience - ideally Websphere MQ Series.
- BEA's WebLogic Server.
- UML design using a case tool such as a Paradigm Plus or ideally Rational Rose.
- Relational database access using JDBC and/or SQLJ (preferably ORACLE).
- XML/XSLT experience.
- Build scripting experience, ideally using ANT.

You will be responsible for the User Interface design of both desktop and the Web User Interface of the application. You will design, develop and deliver the application in conjuction with the other members of the GUI team.

Key Accountabilities:
- Work as part of a team of application developers to design and deliver the user interface.
- Contribute to Coding & UI standards and common look-and-feel.
- Manage client-side technical issues such as performance, security and usability.
- Implement code solutions in Java and take an active role in design and development.

Key Tasks:
- Design and review interface in conjuction with Business Analyst, Product Consultants & Technical Architects.
- Implement the application in Java targeting a Windows platform.
- Design new and improve upon existing Web User Interfaces using Applets, Servlets & JSP's.
- Ensure the system is designed as easy to use and robust.
- Work closely with the other development teams to ensure similar look and feel across all product interfaces.
- Implement UI testing procedures in conjunction with the Product Test Group.
- Contribute to and maintain functional documentation for the UI development team.
- Maintain existing procedures and solutions, resolve issues and fix bugs.
