Engineer, Core Network Planning - Traffic (Temporary - 1 year)

Requirements:

- Polytechnic University or equivalent (telecommunication engineer) degree
- Knowledge and Experience in Mobile Core Networks
- 2-3 years working experience as engineer within a telecom operator – switching core network area
- Engineering knowledge in Circuit switched domain 2G/3G architecture;
- Voice & signalling topology (interfaces, protocol stack, services - SS7, PRI, SIP H323, TCP/IP, etc);
- Traffic engineering (Erlang, GoS);
- Packet switched domain (2G/3G architecture);
- Data network (OSI stack; IP (Internet, IP VPN, MPLS), LAN/WAN network
- Planning, design, engineering field experience in Core Network (Circuit/Packet Switched node design, mobile/fixed voice and data, traffic engineering, deployment of IP telephony, knowledge about IP transport (LAN/WAN, PDH, SDH, DWDM)) within a telecom operator
- English (above average level, technical vocabulary)

Role:

Contribute to Core Network Traffic Engineering team activities, related to the following major areas: • CS [Circuit switched domain] /PS [Packet switched domain]/IMS [IP Multimedia Subsystem]/Signaling [HLR, STP, Number Portability] nodes long term performance, forecast and reporting • IP Network Performance • Network Performance Applications Support taking into consideration company forecast, technology evolution, Vodafone Technology Networks recommendations, quality of service design parameters and business continuity plan. These streams generate the following outputs: engineering recommendations, different kinds of traffic behaviors and trends against forecasts on medium and long term basis, periodical and one time reports requested by upper management. Main responsibilities are listed below, but are not limited to:


Key Responsibilities:

Provide consistent recommendations in order to sustain budgeting decisions related to additional network capacity and/or functionalities o Performing periodical and one time reports to upper management regarding network traffic and performance o Provide relevant recommendations for network topology changes in order to optimize the load between different network elements and future required network investments o Participate in all network design and engineering activities as well as in all projects having impact in the core network o Provide inputs in the planning and design processes for network topology, configuration of the network elements and equipment capacity requirements for voice services (2G/3G core network (CS, PS), radio access network (RAN)), Data&ISS services and transport network o Monitor and analyze, on a regular basis, CS&PS Traffic as well as the Performance, having as reference forecast values, established patterns and Network KPIs o Performing sanity check activities (related to the DBs, tables, scheduled jobs, scripts) on a regular basis. - Ensure that voice and data traffic measurements collected from network elements are recorded in existing traffic engineering DBs for further analysis - Ensure the established Network KPI’s correctly created, calculated and reported over time - Maintain, develop and optimize systems used for data collection, data analysis and data reporting in order to ensure accurate results
