ELECTRICAL TESTING & PROTECTION ENGINEER-QATAR

Requirements:
-BSc Engineering (Electrical) degree or equivalent, coupled with solid practical experience and demonstrable competence in power systems protection and testing is required for this position.
-Multinational experience
-Fluent in English
-Good communicator, good interpersonal skills
-An understanding of the business economics within the fertilizer/petrochemical industry and the ability to think strategically
-Able to work independently
-Ability to handle multiply tasks

Qafco, the world’s largest fertilizer manufacturing site, requires a Protection Engineer to set up and maintain a new protection and test unit within the Electrical Maintenance organization.

The site has an extensive power systems network incorporating bulk power importation at 132kv; internal power generation up to 200mw; and an extensive distribution network at 66kv, 11kv, 3.3kv, 690v and 415v.

The bulk of the electrical system comprises a large variety of electricity utilization schemes, mainly drives, at 11kv, 3.3kv, 690v and 415v.

Major electrical equipment includes power transformers up to 125 MVA, 132kv; power generators up to 80MVA, 11kv; power cables operating at up to 132kv; and electrical drives (induction and synchronous machines) up to 4.2MW, 11kv.

The Protection Engineer will be required to:
• Review existing protection and control schemes for the above equipment and associated control systems, including emergency load management systems.
• Design protection and control schemes for new equipment and systems going forward.
• Establish and maintain a register of all protection and control schemes and related settings.
• Establish and maintain protection and test routines for the above equipment and associated control systems, including emergency load management systems.
• Conduct or initiate network studies as necessary.
• Generally provide support and advice for Field Maintenance Engineers on protection and control matters.
