Database Engineer (Oracle )

Position purpose:
We are looking for a dedicated, self-motivated, driven technical professional to work in a team of database engineers building highly scaleable database systems to support a highly transactional, high availability, website and associated products & tools.
The successful candidate will have exceptional technical and problem solving skills, with a positive, results driven attitude.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:
• Advanced SQL and PL/SQL Development.
• Creation of high performance SQL as well as PL/SQL and in-depth tuning of both.
• Review product specifications in order to give development estimates.
• Physical database design.
• Engineer feature and performance improvements, adhering to and feeding back into departmental standards and guidelines.
• Innovative technical design and creation of technical specifications.
• Thorough, demonstrable unit testing.
• Code reviews, by and for peers.
• Technical documentation that shares knowledge effectively.


Person Specification
Experience & Qualifications Required:

• Minimum 3 years as a software engineer
• 3+ years SQL (preferred 5 years)
• 3+ years PL/SQL (preferred 5 years)
• 3+ years working in a highly transactional(1000+) environment
• 3+ years experience of working with OLTP systems (preferred)
• Experience of database performance analysis and design
• Strong in SQL, PL/SQL tuning and database optimization
• Oracle instance tuning
• Oracle 9i, 10g, 11g features
• Source code control (SourceSafe, CVS, Perforce …)
• Bug tracking systems (PVCS, TestTrack … )

Desirable:
• Knowledge of performance monitoring using in-depth Oracle features
• Understanding of finance / transactional / gaming systems.
• ETL tools
• Experience with JDBC
• Unit testing knowledge
• Unix experience
• Knowledge of DW concepts
• Data modelling
