DTP/ Layout Artist

REQUIREMENTS:

Comprehensive background, understanding, and experience with MOS (Macintosh) or PC (IBM) and DTP computer applications, such as: PageMaker, Quark, Microsoft Office, Acrobat, Illustrator, Freehand or Corel Draw, Photoshop.

Knowledge of PDF and postscript files and PDF plug-ins.

General knowledge of utility programs such as file compression, disk repair, print spoolers, PC to Mac, and Mac to PC conversion processes.

Ability to prepare files for output to film, plate, spot and 4-color process, receive and manipulate files electronically and maintain operating system on production machine.

Ability to send files to the image setter, high speed digital copiers and color copiers.

Able to be working for prolonged periods of time - 8 hours or more per day

Previous Experience1-2 years in a similar position preferred.

JOB DESCRIPTION
A DTP/ layout artist arranges words and pictures on a page/screen in a manner that is appealing and consistent with the clients CI or communication objectives.

MAIN TASKS
Ensures that the quality of photographs and images used is up to standards
Selecting the photographs/ images to be used for each page/screen (usually upon the advice of the content provider in concern)
Arrange the text on each page/ screen.
Coordinate with Production Department to produce and prioritize jobs, and when necessary reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates.

Perform all design and desktop publishing (DTP) job orders according to work order requirements/ deadlines.

Operate DTP equipment (PC and Mac), scanner, laser and color printers, cameras, and RIPs, as needed.

Interface with the Outside Sales Representative, the Customer Service Representative and the customer to understand job requirements and ensure all design work is approved prior to creating plates or forwarding for printing or copying.
