The Person

Experience & Qualifications Required:

Essential:
• Experienced operator within different software development environments
• Experienced in managing technical staff and growing teams in terms of size and strength
• Experienced in working for UK IT companies (ideally)
• Detailed knowledge of software development processes, procedures and techniques.
• Experienced in dealing with third parties – often from various overseas locations
• A good balance of business and technical skills
• BSc Computer Science or similar

The Position

Position Purpose:

The Senior Development Manager role is responsible for all engineering activity that takes place within Betfair’s Romania Office. As such it requires an individual with the gravitas and sense of urgency to lead a highly motivated team of Engineering Managers to ongoing successful delivery. The person who takes on this role will also be expected to oversee an unprecedented expansion of the development capability in the Romania Office.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

• Line Manage the current engineering management team – objective setting, appraisals etc
• Budget ownership for all development and training activity
• Oversee rapid expansion of the Romania Development Teams
• Provide Technical guidance on skill sets required to support existing and future technical needs
• Own the interaction with third party development related suppliers

Key Working Relationships:

• Key relationships are with Engineering Managers in Romania and London, the Head of Product Development and Head of platform roles based in the UK, the Director’s of IS, Architecture and Development based in the UK, third party companies and the Romania Operations Manager.

Special Conditions:

• While this is not an operational role, candidate may need to be available for consultation during peak activity (e.g. evening and weekends)
• Preferred background in the internet and online betting/gaming industry
